License renewal

Connecticut real estate license renewal and CE

Renewals are handled by the Connecticut Department of Consumer Protection (DCP) and the Real Estate Commission. Summary checked against the official sources in October 2026.

Renewal cycle

All Connecticut salesperson licenses expire May 31 of every even-numbered year (broker licenses expire November 30 of even years). DCP emails renewal notices about 30 to 45 days ahead. The salesperson renewal fee is $578.

Continuing education

  • 12 hours per 2-year cycle: the 3-hour mandatory course (for the current cycle, 2028 CT Real Estate License Law) and 9 hours of real estate electives. Alternatively, pass the 40-question Connecticut CE exam with PSI.
  • For the current cycle, CE is due between March 1, 2026 and February 28, 2028, three months before the renewal deadline. Late completion brings a fee or enforcement.
  • Only Connecticut-approved courses count, including for licensees by reciprocity. Keep certificates at least 4 years.

First renewal

  • No CE is due in the current cycle if you passed a Connecticut licensing exam between March 1, 2026 and February 28, 2028. The full renewal fee applies at the first renewal.

Late or expired

  • A late fee of $57 applies if the salesperson renewal fee is not received by the expiration date.
  • Inactive salesperson licenses cannot be renewed, so line up a sponsoring broker before the renewal cycle.
