License renewal
North Dakota real estate license renewal and CE
Renewals are handled by the North Dakota Real Estate Commission (NDREC). Summary checked against the official sources in October 2026.
Renewal cycle
All North Dakota licenses expire December 31 each year. Renew on or before November 15 to renew on time for the next year.
Continuing education
- Resident licensees complete CE each cycle, which runs November 16 through November 15. For the 2025-2026 cycle that is 12 hours of elective topics, with no mandatory topics.
- There is no grace period. If CE is not done by November 15, renew as inactive; you can transfer to active once CE is complete.
- Keep your own course certificates; you must attend at least 90% of classroom hours.
First renewal
- Salespersons first licensed in the current year are exempt from CE for their first renewal.
Late or expired
- Missing the November 15 deadline means losing the right to charge a commission after December 31. If your license is canceled for not renewing, you must reapply and pass the exams again.
