License renewal
South Carolina real estate license renewal and CE
Renewals are handled by the South Carolina Real Estate Commission (SC LLR). Summary checked against the official sources in October 2026.
Renewal cycle
South Carolina licenses renew every 2 years with the CE deadline. About half of licensees renew in even years and half in odd years; licenses expire June 30 and the renewal window runs April to June of the expiration year. The associate renewal fee is $45.
Continuing education
- 10 hours of CE every 2 years, including at least 4 hours on mandated topics. CE must be done before you renew.
- Providers report hours to CE Broker within 14 days; the commission audits after renewals close.
- A criminal background check is part of every third renewal.
First renewal
- An associate who completes a post-licensing course or a broker course is exempt from CE for that renewal period.
Late or expired
- A license not renewed by its expiration date lapses, and you cannot practice.
- You have 24 months to reinstate: proof of CE, the $45 renewal fee plus $15 per month for an associate.
- Not reinstated by the end of the 24th month: the license is canceled and you apply again under current requirements.
