License renewal
Washington real estate license renewal and CE
Renewals are handled by the Washington State Department of Licensing (DOL). Summary checked against the official sources in October 2026.
Renewal cycle
Washington broker licenses renew every 2 years from your first issue date. You can renew up to 120 days early, and a late renewal does not move your dates. Fingerprint background results renew every 6 years.
Continuing education
- After the first renewal: at least 30 hours each renewal, including the 3-hour Current Issues in Washington Residential Real Estate course and 27 hours of other approved CE. At least 15 hours must be within 24 months of the renewal date.
- Fair housing: take the 6-hour Washington Real Estate Fair Housing course once, then the 3-hour version every renewal.
- You certify your CE online when you renew. Upload proof only if you are picked for an audit.
First renewal
- First active renewal: at least 90 hours, including the 30-hour Advanced Practices course, the 30-hour Real Estate Law course, the 3-hour Current Issues course and 27 hours of other approved CE, all taken after you were first licensed.
Late or expired
- An inactive license needs no CE, but you still renew every 2 years and keep fingerprints current. Contact DOL to reactivate; CE may be required.
- A canceled license can be reinstated if it has been canceled for less than 2 years. Otherwise you start the licensing process again.
