License renewal

Idaho real estate license renewal and CE

Renewals are handled by the Idaho Real Estate Commission (Division of Occupational and Professional Licenses). Summary checked against the official sources in October 2026.

Renewal cycle

Your first Idaho license runs 1 year plus the months up to your next birthday (no more than 2 years) and expires on your birthday. Active renewals certify CE, the mandatory errors and omissions insurance and payment of fees.

Continuing education

  • To renew active: 2 different Idaho Commission core courses you have not taken before, plus 12 elective hours.
  • Extra hours do not carry over, and you cannot get credit twice for the same core course or for the same course within a license period.
  • Renewing inactive needs no education then, but all required education must be done before the license is activated.

First renewal

  • A salesperson's first active renewal requires 2 different core courses plus 12 hours of post license education: Post License Fundamentals (8 hours) and one 4-hour post license course (Pricing, Marketing and Advertising; Professionalism, Negotiation and Closing; or Introduction to Commercial Real Estate).

Late or expired

  • The Commission may accept a late renewal subject to conditions such as a late fee, but your license rights are expired until you renew.
