License renewal
Michigan real estate license renewal and CE
Renewals are handled by the Michigan Department of Licensing and Regulatory Affairs (LARA). Summary checked against the official sources in October 2026.
Renewal cycle
Michigan salesperson licenses renew on a 3-year cycle. Renew in MiPLUS no sooner than 90 days before expiration, after your CE is done. The renewal fee is $78.
Continuing education
- At least 18 hours of CE in each 3-year cycle.
- Every year of the cycle: at least 2 hours on real estate laws, rules and court cases, and at least 1 hour on fair housing compliance. The rest can be done any time before renewal.
- LARA does not track your hours. Keep proof for at least 4 years after you certify.
Late or expired
- Expired less than 3 years: relicense ($108) with 6 hours of CE for each year or partial year since expiration (at least 2 hours of law and 1 hour of fair housing per year).
- Expired 3 years or more: relicense with one of the options in LARA's guide: a passing PSI exam score, a 40-hour prelicensure certificate from the last 12 months, or 6 hours of CE for each year missed.
