License renewal

New Mexico real estate license renewal and CE

Renewals are handled by the New Mexico Real Estate Commission (Regulation and Licensing Department). Summary checked against the official sources in October 2026.

Renewal cycle

New Mexico brokers renew on a 3-year cycle. CE is reported with your renewal and the certificates are uploaded.

Continuing education

  • Associate brokers need 36 hours per cycle: the 4-hour NMREC Core Course in each of the 3 years, a 4-hour ethics class, 4 hours of core electives and other electives to reach 36.
  • Missing a year's core course with no makeup means taking the 30-hour Broker Basics course for 0 credit. Inactive licensees must take the annual core course too.
  • Classes cannot be duplicated and must be earned in the current license cycle.

First renewal

  • New associate brokers must take either the New Broker Business Practices course or CCIM 101 within the first year of licensure. The 30-hour New Broker Business Practices course can count for up to 10 CE hours.
