How to get an Oregon real estate license

Oregon licenses real estate professionals through the Oregon Real Estate Agency. Here is the path in plain steps, checked against the official sources in October 2026.

Step by step

  1. Meet the basics

You must be 18 and have a high school diploma, GED or international equivalent. The broker license is Oregon's entry-level license.

  2. Apply first in eLicense

Oregon puts the application first: create an eLicense account, apply and pay the $300 nonrefundable fee. You get an Applicant ID by email to give your school.

  3. Take 150 hours of pre-license education

Complete seven courses at an Agency-approved school: Real Estate Law, Oregon Real Estate Practice and Real Estate Finance (30 hours each), Contracts and Agency Law (15 each), Real Estate Brokerage (20) and Property Management (10). The school makes you eligible for the exam.

  4. Pass the exam and get fingerprinted

Schedule with PSI and pass both sections of the broker exam. You are fingerprinted for the background check at the PSI test center. Scores and background clearance are each good for one year.

  5. Join a managing principal broker

The license is issued when your background check clears, your managing principal broker adds your pending license to the business, and the Agency finishes its review.

Keeping your license

  • Active renewal: 30 hours of CE, including a 2-hour Fair Housing course (required since January 1, 2026) and the 2- or 3-hour Law and Rule Required Course (LARRC). Active renewal fee is $300.
  • Enter your course information in eLicense before or during renewal, and keep certificates for 3 years. Extra hours do not carry over.

Questions

Do I need a website on day one?

No, but a simple page with your photo, brokerage and contact info helps clients find you. Property Landing Pages has a free plan with one listing page and an agent site.
