How to get an Utah real estate license

Utah licenses real estate professionals through the Utah Division of Real Estate. Here is the path in plain steps, checked against the official sources in October 2026.

Step by step

  1. Meet the basics

Be at least 18 when you apply, have a valid Social Security number and at least a high school diploma or equivalent, and meet the statutory standards of honesty, integrity, truthfulness, reputation and competency.

  2. Take 120 hours of pre-license education

Complete 120 hours at a certified real estate pre-license school.

  3. Pass the exam within 1 year

Pass the Real Estate Sales Agent Exam (Pearson VUE) within 1 year of finishing the course.

  4. Apply within 90 days

Apply online with a UtahID within 90 days of passing (use the email you tested with). The Division then emails fingerprint instructions within 1 to 2 business days.

Keeping your license

  • 18 hours of certified CE every renewal cycle, with at least 9 core hours. Three of those core hours must be a Division-approved 3-hour mandatory course (residential, commercial or property management).
  • Finish all CE by the 15th of your renewal month to make an on-time renewal. Renewals are subject to audit.

Questions

Do I need a website on day one?

No, but a simple page with your photo, brokerage and contact info helps clients find you. Property Landing Pages has a free plan with one listing page and an agent site.
