How to get an Arkansas real estate license

Arkansas licenses real estate professionals through the Arkansas Real Estate Commission (AREC). Here is the path in plain steps, checked against the official sources in October 2026.

Step by step

  1. Be 18 and take 60 hours

You must be 18. Complete 60 classroom hours of real estate education, with 30 in basic principles, at an accredited postsecondary school or an AREC-licensed school. The salesperson certificate does not expire; exam prep courses generally do not count.

  2. Apply and wait for approval

Submit a salesperson application with the information for state and federal background checks. Arkansas residents should not get fingerprinted until AREC emails authorization.

  3. Pass the exam

After AREC approves you to sit, pass the Pearson VUE licensure exam.

  4. Send forms and fees within 90 days

AREC must receive the proper forms and fees no later than 90 days after you pass.

Keeping your license

  • 7 hours of CE every year to renew an active license for the next calendar year.
  • Make sure your CE is reported by the deadline; that is your responsibility. One course cannot count for both CE and pre-license education.

Questions

Do I need a website on day one?

No, but a simple page with your photo, brokerage and contact info helps clients find you. Property Landing Pages has a free plan with one listing page and an agent site.
