How to get an Alaska real estate license

Alaska licenses real estate professionals through the Alaska Real Estate Commission (Division of Corporations, Business and Professional Licensing). Here is the path in plain steps, checked against the official sources in October 2026.

Step by step

  1. Complete 40 hours

Complete the required 40 hours of pre-licensing education. Your certificate is valid for 18 months, and your complete application must be filed before it expires.

  2. Pass the exam

Register with Pearson VUE and pass the Alaska Real Estate Salesperson exam. Scores are valid for 6 months, so file your application before then.

  3. Line up E&O and a broker

Get errors and omissions insurance (the Master Policy or equivalent coverage) and have your employing broker complete the Employing Broker Information form (#08-4972).

  4. Apply

Submit application #08-4179 with a $200 nonrefundable application fee, a $120 license fee and a $50 recovery fund fee, plus licensure verifications from any state where you have held a license.

Keeping your license

  • 20 contact hours during the licensing period: the 8-hour core curriculum identified by the Commission plus 12 elective hours in approved subjects.

Questions

Do I need a website on day one?

No, but a simple page with your photo, brokerage and contact info helps clients find you. Property Landing Pages has a free plan with one listing page and an agent site.
