How to get a Missouri real estate license

Missouri licenses real estate professionals through the Missouri Real Estate Commission. Here is the path in plain steps, checked against the official sources in October 2026.

Step by step

Take the 48-hour pre-exam course
Complete the approved 48-hour Salesperson Pre-Examination Course before the exam. It must be no more than 6 months old when the Commission receives your application.
Pass both exam portions
Pass the national and state portions of the exam after finishing the pre-exam course.
Take the 24-hour practice course
After the pre-exam course, complete the approved 24-hour Missouri Real Estate Practice Course.
Fingerprints and application
Submit fingerprints to the Missouri State Highway Patrol's approved vendor for state and FBI background checks, then apply on the Commission's form. Applicants must show good moral character and a reputation for honesty and fair dealing.

Keeping your license

12 hours of Commission-approved CE during the 2-year license period, for active licenses.
At least 3 of the 12 hours must be the core course the Commission names on its website by March 31 of each even-numbered year.
Check online that your schools reported every course; missing records are your responsibility to fix.
