How to get a New Hampshire real estate license

New Hampshire licenses real estate professionals through the New Hampshire Real Estate Commission (Office of Professional Licensure and Certification). Here is the path in plain steps, checked against the official sources in October 2026.

Step by step

  1. Be 18 and complete 40 hours

You must be 18. Complete 40 hours of approved study before the date of your exam.

  2. Pass the exam

Pass the examination administered or approved by the Commission on the principles of real estate practice.

  3. Show good character and clear the records check

Have no record of unprofessional conduct, provide any evidence of honesty and integrity the Commission requires and complete the criminal records check.

  4. Apply online

Initial applications are done in the OPLC online portal. Licenses are issued by email, usually within 10 to 14 business days of processing.

Keeping your license

  • A 3-hour accredited core course for every renewal, active or inactive.
  • 12 more elective hours to renew active (or to move from inactive to active), completed within the current 2-year license period. All courses must have different course numbers.

Questions

Do I need a website on day one?

No, but a simple page with your photo, brokerage and contact info helps clients find you. Property Landing Pages has a free plan with one listing page and an agent site.
